Therapy Session

What to expect in a therapy session

2nd floor lobby

Therapy sessions generally last from 45 to 50 minutes. The first session is called an initial evaluation. During this meeting, you and your therapist will discuss your presenting concerns and review relevant history to more fully understand the situation. At this time, you and your therapist will discuss treatment options and develop goals for your treatment as well as a plan to achieve these goals. You will also discuss how frequent your sessions will be.

Therapy is a collaborative process between you and your therapist and, as treatment progresses, the plan can be reviewed and modified as needed. You can expect that your therapist will be respectful, non-judgmental and sensitive to your situation. You can also expect that all of your information will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality.

If your therapist is unavailable when a crisis occurs, another therapist from The Westwood Group will attend to your needs.

If you and your therapist believe medication might be helpful for you, your therapist will work with a psychiatrist or your family physician to obtain a medication evaluation. If you should need to go into the hospital, your therapist will continue to have contact with you while you are hospitalized.
