Dr. Michele Cosby

is a native to the Central Virginia area and is excited to provide services in the place she calls home. Dr. Michele Cosby is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who places high value on empowering individuals across the lifespan to have their needs met, overcome obstacles, and grow. She received her Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D). in Clinical Psychology from The Virginia Consortium Program of Clinical Psychology (The College of William and Mary, Norfolk State University, Eastern Virginia Medical School, and Old Dominion University). This included an internship at the Counseling and Psychological Services at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Prior to this Dr. Cosby, obtained her Master’s degree in Community/Clinical Psychology and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Norfolk State University.

Dr. Cosby has worked in a variety of clinical settings for over 10 years, including a children’s clinic, juvenile detention, university counseling centers, veteran’s administration, community mental health, geriatric, and inpatient psychiatric settings.

Dr. Cosby enjoys working with children, adolescents, adults, and families in need of support. She is experienced in treating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, and trauma. Her approach is empathic, practical, collaborative, and individualized, to meet the unique needs of each client. In her practice, Dr. Cosby uses a number of therapy approaches to assist the client in reaching their identified goals to include: cognitive behavioral techniques, interpersonal therapies, play therapy strategies, humor, and multicultural counseling. She believes that the power of the relationship is the most important aspect of any therapeutic interaction.
