About The Westwood Group

When you need help with psychological problems, you want someone who understands the problem ... and can help.

You want to know what treatment is recommended and how it will be carried out. You want to know the person who is treating you and have confidence in the group that backs up your therapists.

Experience and depth

The Westwood Group was formed in 1983 and currently includes 16 professionals with over 150 combined years in practice, who bring years of experience in treating a wide variety of problems in children, adolescents and adults. With this level of experience comes trust in the approaches used and the integrity of the providers.

A wide range of clients and services

As a large and diversified group we offer clients in all stages of life, from young children to seniors, a broad range of services, from evaluations and training to therapy for a wide range of issues. See more about our Services.

Active in the community

Our psychologists are dedicated to serving the community, and are active in a variety of mental health initiatives. Several of our clinicians are on the clinical faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems (Medical College of Virginia in the Departments of Psychiatry or Family Practice) and the Department of Social Work.

A dedicated, personal, nurturing relationship

Therapy involves a personal working relationship in which the relationship itself is a factor in the success of treatment. You will have an individual therapist who will see you on an ongoing basis. If your therapist is unavailable when a crisis occurs, another therapist from The Westwood Group will attend to your needs.

If you and your therapist believe medication might be helpful for you, your therapist will work with a psychiatrist or your family physician to obtain a medication evaluation. If you should need to go into the hospital, your therapist will continue to have contact with you while you are hospitalized.

Training, consulting, and critical incident therapy

A number of our therapists do training and consult with:

  • organizations
  • schools
  • banks
  • religious groups
  • hospitals
  • residential treatment centers
  • and other treatment facilities

Several of our therapists have special training to hold critical incident stress debriefing in the wake of a tragic event.

The Westwood Group has a 24-hour answering service with a therapist on call for emergencies for our current clients.
