
Deborah Dougherty MSN, FNP-C
Deborah Dougherty
is a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with more than 25 years of experience. Deborah earned her Bachelor of Arts from University of Vermont in 1990, and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Massachusetts in 1996. After being awarded a scholarship from the Department of Veterans Affairs, she began her career working with veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC. Deborah’s work experience has included Inpatient Adult Acute Psychiatry, as well as Internal Medicine, University Student Health, HIV/Infectious Disease, Neuro-Otology and Outpatient Psychiatry. Deborah offers psychiatric evaluations, medication management and supportive counseling in a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic environment.
Deborah enjoys working with adolescents and adults throughout the lifespan. Deborah has extensive experience in caring for patients with multiple chronic medical issues that may coexist with psychiatric concerns. Deborah blends this knowledge of psychiatry and chronic medical illness when evaluating and treating patients with mental health concerns. She is especially interested in working with persons struggling with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, mood disorders and ADHD. Deborah’s approach to care is holistic, encompassing emotional, mental, physical, spiritual and social well-being. In addition to medication management, Deborah also utilizes various complementary interventions such as mindfulness, lifestyle changes and alternative therapies to help individuals reach their goals.
Deborah is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners.
